Guam is located in the western Pacific Ocean, about three-quarters of the way from Hawaii to the Philippines. It is an organized, unincorporated territory of the United States and is the largest and southernmost island in the Mariana Islands chain. Guam is situated approximately 6,000 miles (9,656 km) west of San Francisco and 3,800 miles (6,115 km) west of Honolulu. The island covers an area of 210 square miles and has a population of around 170,000 people. The capital of Guam is Hagåtña.
